Colorado Springs police notify public about two predators

The Colorado Springs Police Department notified residents that two men designated by Colorado courts as Sexually Violent Predators are registered in the city. Police said 66-year-old Mitchell Wayne Bishop is registered as homeless and living near the Springs Rescue Mission at 5 W. Las Vegas St. in downtown Colorado Springs. Police also said Clifford Wayne Chance, a 70-year-old man on supervised release, moved to 329 Swope Ave. near East Platte Avenue. KOAA reported that Chance is described as a white man, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. CSPD said it is making reasonable efforts to ensure Chance registers as a sex offender and understands his responsibilities.

Avalanche Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux dies at 60

Claude Lemieux, the former Colorado Avalanche forward and four-time Stanley Cup champion, died Thursday at age 60, the NHL Alumni Association announced. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly after 3 a.m. to an apparent suicide at the family’s furniture store in Lake Park, Florida, where one of Lemieux’s sons found him in a rear warehouse area. Lemieux won the Stanley Cup with Montreal, New Jersey and Colorado, including the Avalanche’s first championship after the franchise moved to Denver for the 1995-96 season. Three days before his death, he served as the Montreal Canadiens’ torchbearer before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final at Bell Centre.

Falcon baseball reaches Colorado 4A title game

Falcon advanced to the Colorado Class 4A baseball championship game with a 4-3 extra-inning win over Ponderosa on Friday at Erdle Field, with Broden Cox singling in Ethan Gentz in the bottom of the eighth inning. The third-seeded Falcons trailed No. 8 Ponderosa 3-1 after four innings, then scored in the fifth and sixth to tie the game before holding Ponderosa scoreless in the eighth. Falcon will play No. 5 Pueblo County at 10 a.m. Saturday at Erdle Field in the 4A championship round. Pueblo County beat Falcon 11-6 last weekend and needs one win Saturday for the title; Falcon must win twice, including a possible 12:30 p.m. second game.
